Support Our Falmouth Road Race Charity Team and Help Fund Lifesaving Equipment

The FCCNS inaugural ASICS Falmouth Road Race Charity Team will run to raise vital funds for the Cape Cod National Seashore Lifeguard Program. This dedicated team of runners—including lifeguard alumni, family members, and Seashore supporters—is participating in the 54th ASICS Falmouth Road Race to help ensure the continued safety, accessibility, and enjoyment of the Seashore’s beaches for all visitors.

This year, our charity team is using the race as a platform to launch a major fundraising campaign in support of replacing essential lifecycle and lifesaving equipment used by the Seashore’s lifeguards.

Patty Greene, Team Runner & Cape Cod National Seashore Lifeguard Alumni

Each year, Cape Cod National Seashore lifeguards protect visitors across six beaches and respond to more than 100 emergencies. To keep both lifeguards and visitors safe, critical equipment must be regularly replaced, including:

  • Beach wheelchairs

  • Rescue paddleboards

  • Rescue surfboards

The total need for this equipment is approximately $40,000, and our Falmouth Road Race Charity Team has set an initial fundraising goal of $10,000 to help kickstart this campaign.

This team runs in memory of Annie Haggerty, a beloved Seashore lifeguard who served for 19 summers and, in 1990, ran the full length of Cape Cod National Seashore’s sandy beaches. Annie passed away in 2013 from skin cancer, and her legacy continues to inspire generations of lifeguards, runners, and Seashore supporters.

We are honored to have lifeguard alum Patty Greene, Audrey McGonagle, Rick Gladstone, and Andrew Scott representing the Friends in this year’s race and fundraising effort.

There are still three spots remaining on our charity team for individuals interested in running in support of this important cause. Those interested in joining the team may contact info@fccns.org for more information. Race Day: Sunday, August 16th at 8:00 AM in Falmouth, MA

Your support will directly help provide the equipment needed to protect beachgoers, improve accessibility, and ensure lifeguards have the tools they need to respond when emergencies arise.
