Funding for shorebird interns continues for summer 2024

The Friends of Cape Cod National Seashore continues to substantially fund the park’s shorebird intern program. This program funds four interns for 16 weeks. The interns work alongside the seashore’s professional staff performing vital shorebird protection and monitoring work.

Some shorebird species are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, and therefore the park has a positive requirement to protect them. This is aligned with National Park Service (NPS) priorities for wildlife protection. In addition to helping the park fulfill this vital function, the interns receive hands-on experience in natural resource management, are exposed to different NPS careers, and build their resumes. Many interns go on to paid positions with the National Park Service or they return to school for advanced degrees.
