Stephen Spielberg’s Lincoln (2012) chronicles the 1865 effort by the sixteenth president to abolish slavery before the end of the Civil War. The film tells the story of the passage of the landmark 13th Amendment to the Constitution and Lincoln’s political gymnastics to convince a reluctant Congress to end the practice of involuntary servitude in the United States. The movie has a stellar cast including Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln, Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevens, and Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln. Rated PG-13 (2h 30m)
